On my way over to my friends for a card game we play between friends every so often. I was hit by a small bus. Much like this
I was rear ended at a stop light on a pretty well lit road.
Well after the accident I couldnt move. I was taken to the hospital and found out that I would need back surgery to fix it. I was on some pretty good pain medicine but the doctor explained it a few days later after the surgery.
My l2 and l3 vertabrae was herniated and pinched a nerve. So they did surgery sunday. I got out of the hospital today and currently gotta lay in bed for the next week at a minimum.
While in the hospital I had to deal with the insurance stuff. The Mustang is totaled. I was shown the pictures that the police took and were given to the insurance company.
Anyways, my military health care is covering some and whatevers left will be paid by the other guy.
Between the gas station camera and other people who witnessed it, the police are saying its the other guys fault. Which I said it better be.
So, Ive got a week of laying in bed with a doctor appt next week to see how everything is healing. Currently the doctor said that I shouldnt try walking until at least next week.
So on April 16th my 16 Ecoboost Mustang died. I bought it new on February 3rd, it was born in November of 15. 6 months of being the Cars and Coffee burn out, crowd running over Mustang the internet has made it out to be.
So as of April 16th Ive had a shitty week. I hope my back heals fine, and eventually Ill buy another Guard green over saddle brown Ecoboost Stang again.
At least the plus side is I got some good meds. Although the down side is the doctor wants me to wear a back brace once I go back to work.
The drawback is, I still have to run my company between drug induced sleeps.
On a different note, USAA insurance has came to my hospital bed and even brought a get well card. The local agent has also said he’ll come by my house and update me on the insurance stuff and also check on me.
Which im honestly surprised an insurance company would do. Although they arent a regular insurance company, its a for the military by military insurance and bank.
The police also took my stuff out of my car before it was towed. Since I was unable to before I left for the hospital. They brought it to the hospital.
All it was, was my phone, a charger, keys, and bag of clothes in the trunk.
So thats been my last few days. I have yet to shower since the accident. Well my girlfriend wiped me down with baby wipes. But its still not a shower.
Tldr - Totaled Mustang, got back surgery, realized my insurance company and the police dept jurisdiction it happened in were pretty nice guys and not douches I always thought they were.
No pics of the totaled car, surprisingly the Mustang took a bus to tje ass and only sorta pinned me under the steering wheel. They cut the steering wheel to get me out.
———————————————————————————————
Update -
Ive talked to my insurance company. Since they seem to think my factory 19's are aftermarket, I can keep them as long as I have something else to throw on there. I tried to talk them into letting me keep the car, but I won’t be able to. So no Mustang Ecoboost for something else.
I do have some steelies from something else that have the same bolt pattern. So I’ll keep the 19s. So if I do get another Stang, I can save the money for these wheels and just get cheap wheels.
My insurance has decided to pay the car off, pay any medical bills my insurance doesn’t cover. Along with giving me some for pain and such. Then they’ll collect it from the other company. They’d rather get this over with me, and deal with the other insurance company to get this over as fast as possible. At least on my end.
So I walk away from the Mustang free and clear. And get some extra essentially to cover a new down payment. Once I’m healed, I’ll be getting a new car.

Shit man, I’m sorry to hear that. As tough as it is to hear, you can always get another Mustang, but there’s only one you.
Also, insert joke about the fact that the bus driver should have been in the back seats of the short bus, not behind the steering wheel.

After I got hit by a car on my bike I was adamant about doing things by myself. I thought I was too tough to ask for help. It was a stupid decision and only prolonged my healing. Don’t be Big Bubba Ray.

I only take the hydrocodone when I absolutely need too. Partially because they knock me out.

When you do get cleared to move around again, make the PT a priority, because it makes such a big difference in helping you recover. Also, the back brace is going to be really important. Dont put your pride before your recovery, that just gets dangerous.

I was hit by the bus at 50 mph. The speed limit is 45 on that section of road and the bus driver admitted to doing about 50 when he hit me.
It shoved one tail light under where the rear speakers were.

Yea, this was my first really serious accident. I still have yet to be in an at fault accident. I’ve always been hit, never have hit anyone. I guess all that driving stuff I did while military has paid off.
My Gf wants me to keep doing whatever is necessary to get back to 100% again. I planned on doing everything that guys insurance would pay for to get there. Not just because I’m a dick, because this is a back injury and not something to fuck with. I’ve shrugged off my knee surgery, but I’ve always been told that your back is something not to mess with.
My doctor on base wants to see me once I’m able to move well enough to make it there. I had an appt set up for this Friday with him to go over some lab work for my other medical issues, but I had my gf cancel it so I could heal properly.

Jesus! Good job then, Mustang.
Side note: I’d never admit I was doing 50 if I were him. It’s so close to the speed limit you could easily claim you were doing 45, and it may be the difference between negligence and criminal negligence.

Either another Ecoboost Stang, Infiniti Q50( Id love a Q70 but I hate huge car payments). Those 2 are on the top of my list.
I’m looking at another Mustang for sure. I loved mine. I drove it everywhere, for anything. Just an excuse to drive it. The only issue I had with it was due to the intersection at the end of my street to the bigger road, its angled left for whatever reason. So I’d often have to lean forward to attempt to the make the left I needed without getting hit.
The big C Pillar in the stang doesn’t help.

50 is acceptable on that road. Most people do 55-60. I know I’ve done it when your around that area during the day.
The cops in that area wont give you a ticket for 50, although that’s just regular driving, not an accident. The driver of the bus was more worried about me.
One of the tail lights was under the rear speakers. He hit me pretty hard. I’m sure he’ll pay for it sooner or later. You don’t total a 30k Mustang, send its driver to the hospital with back injuries and then your insurance company is like “Shit happens, we aint raising your rate”.

Two very different cars! My mother in law drives an Infinity G35 coupe and absolutely loves it. I would consider it closer to the mustang than the Q50. The G35 has similar visibility issues. I know, I backed hers into a pole that I couldn’t see.

I’ve always liked a big body sedan. I loved my JZX90 Mark II in Japan.
Something about a big powerful sedan has always appealed to me. The Ecoboost was something at first I thought I wouldn’t like. Then I drove it and fell in love. I tried to hide my enthusiasm about the Stang during the sale. Didn’t want the salesman to try to screw me.
I used a big down payment, and just down right acting like it was point a to b transport. I paid 32 out the door, tax title and registration. I got the loan without using the down payment. So once I had it, I just used the down payment to pay on the car.
For instances like this. Where I would be unable to work for one reason or another. So I could afford to miss some payments and not get behind.
I’ve been making double payments on it since I’ve had it. Wanted to pay it off quick. Plus it helped me fend off the modding bug on the Stang. Not having any extra income to piss away on mods, helped me do it. Plus new stang parts aren’t cheap. The aftermarket I felt was gauging because it’s a new model.

Trucks and hatchbacks have always been my preference. Blame growing up in the country and a mom who usually owned a wagon of some kind. Right now she’s driving her third Outback.
I’ve been stuck in a mid-size sedan for a couple of months while my WRX is being repaired. It isn’t terrible, but I really miss the utility of the hatch. And the AWD. And the speed....
To be fair, the car I’m driving has more horsepower than the IROC Camaro all the kids were lusting after when I was in high school. It just shows how insanely powerful cars are these days.
Your payment plan is pretty smart. I knew a guy that made enough in the summer to cover his payments & insurance throughout the school year. He always had a really nice truck. Sometimes it’s a good thing to have a dad in the construction business.

I’ve made all my money myself. Saved while I was military, saved when I worked for others. Then when my grandpa retired, he said I could take over the company. He didn’t want me to pay for it. Just pay him 500 a month until I got 40k paid to him. I gave him his 40k upfront for his business. Now it’s bigger than it ever was. All new equipment(aside from 1 truck). It’s got to the point where I only work because I want something to do. I could choose not to work, stay at home and do whatever I wanted. It runs itself.
The Mustang was something I’ve wanted for a while. I have a buddy that now lives in Mississippi, he bought an 04 GT new. I drove it while he deployed.(this was before I was military) That’s where I got to love Mustangs.
I never cared for the retro styling of the 06-14's. When I saw the 15, I knew I wanted to look at one. So I did, then looked at it’s competition, and came back to the Stang. Now that it’s junk, I’ll probably look at crash test results on other cars I wouldn’t mind owning, and then still give the Mustang it’s room.
My friends hated the Guard green color. They thought it was ugly, I liked it. It’s different. For a while I was the only Guard colored Stang in my area. I never saw one outside a dealership. I saw one a few weeks ago and couldn’t believe someone else bought one. The other one bought his because he saw mine running around. His was the V8, I got the Ecoboost. So mine’s still unique.
When I lived in Japan, I bought cars that weren’t run of the mill stuff, I bought the kinda cars you’d only ever get to own over there. when I bought that JZX90 Mark II, it was mainly due to it’s price and the seller needed to sell it. I loved that car. Nothing like having the space to haul your friends, engines in the trunk, and still being able to outrun someone else.
I remember fucking around with this S15 on the way to the mall. I had 2 engine blocks in the trunk, 3 people in the car with me, and still beat that S15. I talked with the owner through my broken Japanese and his broken english, and he couldn’t believe I ran away from him with a stock Tourer S JZX90.

Never, only Guard green. It’s different, it reminds me of the Bullitt stangs. So never going to get the common Red or Yellow.
39.763899, -84.052786 is where I got hit. In front of the mall, in front of a big shopping center, at 730pm Saturday. It really wasn’t that dark but it was dark enough the auto lights kicked on but not dark enough that they needed to be on.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t implying that either you or my friend didn’t earn the money. He worked his ass off as I’m sure you did too. The big advantage he had was that his dad was willing to hire him for the summer. The labor laws get a little grey when it comes to hiring family.
The biggest thing I can do for my kids is get them through college debt free. I’ll be paying for my and my wife’s educations until the day I die.
Military is a great way to go. I really wanted to fly helicopters when I was a kid. A lack of guarantees kept me out.
Sgt. Badass: “Oh, so you want to go to pilot school? You know you have to pass all the tests.”
Me: “I know I can pass the tests. Guarantee me a slot under the provision that I pass all the entry tests.”
Sgt. Badass: “Sorry, we can’t guarantee that.”
Me: “So, if I sign up, there are no guarantees that if I am top of my class I will get to pilot school? I might end up an infantryman?”
Sgt. Badass: “Yep, that’s the way it works.”
Me: “Thanks, but no.”

Then he retired and i bought the company. He never would have thought i would get it as big as it is.
I get my customers the same way he did. Other companies wouldnt keep the promises they made. They asked me to deliver. I told them theyd get the cars within 72 hrs of buying. Havent let a single one down yet.

I find that so weird. In Australia, if the speed limit is 100km/hr, there are cameras that will ticket you for doing 103. The cops themselves might turn a blind eye, but cameras are far more common.
If they found you were doing 5 over in a crash, they’d throw the book at you I think.
Katsumoto
> Nauraushaun
04/21/2016 at 19:19 | 0 |
The cops around here are somewhat lenient. Now they might throw the book at this guy for the 5 over. I don’t know.
Normally, just driving by one they won’t bother you. Now 5 over, plus no front plate(my state has 2), and lets say dark window tint. They’ll get you for all 3, maybe let you go on speeding.
Some things like window tint, no front plate, and I think loud exhaust are secondary offenses. Meaning you won’t be pulled over specifically for just those. You’d have to do something else to get their attention.
I’ve personally drove by cops and didn’t realize it til it was too late, that I was doing 10 over. They didn’t even bother me. It just depends on the officer, where you are at, road and traffic conditions I guess. My police neighbor moved away so I can’t ask him.
I typically stay in the 5 over buffer for my driving. I do have illegal window tint according to state law, but I’ve never been bothered for it. The cops here just chalk it up to black interior(its the Fit that has 35% tint, its 50% in my state to be legal)
The mustang was going to get window tint, I set up an appt for it. But was busy and couldn’t get the car there. So I cancelled.
Nauraushaun

04/21/2016 at 23:21 | 0 |
Similar thing here I think. If you’re doing 5 over but you’ve got a Commodore with the rear slammed and a fat cannon, you’ll get pulled over every time.
The Fit? You mean the Jazz? :D
Katsumoto
> Nauraushaun
04/21/2016 at 23:33 | 0 |
Yea it’s a Fit here in America. Or Jazz anywhere else. I bought it when gas was like 3-4 bucks a gallon here. Other than normal maintenance, and a battery its been a good car to me. I mean 175k miles and only needs regular maintenance and a battery? That’s a good run on a car I’d say.
I only got it’s windows tinted because if you’ve ever got into one in the middle of the summer heat, youll want tinted windows. The windows are so big on the first gen body style (Mines an 08 right before they changed it). The big windows, black interior just absorb heat and eventually get super hot.
I once put a thermostat in it, after it sat in the sun for 5 hrs it was about 140-150 degrees inside. This was on a 95 degree day parked somewhat under a tree. I got the windows tinted and retried that, it was only 120.
I think what helps me, is the fact I have license plates that say I was military. Like these.
So I’m guessing it kinda lets the cop know that I probably have no drugs, no legal issues and such. At least I think. I hardly get pulled over in the Fit. I don’t know if its the plates or that I typically stay within that 5 mph buffer.
I had the Stang for a few months and got pulled over twice. Once it was like 4am and I was heading into the office because the alarm went off. Then the other time it was like 1am and I was leaving a friends house. So he probably thought I was drunk.
The Fit I’ve been pulled over 3 times in almost 8 years. Never got a ticket from the Fit’s time being pulled over or the Mustang. Just was checking on me and making sure I was legal.

I tried with the motor. I even told the guy that the wheels were stock and he said the company believes that they are aftermarket so you can keep them.
I wanted to keep the car to pull the interior to sell, pull the motor to sell or keep and a few other things. Since it’s all basically brand new. They took it and sent it to the big junkyard in the sky.
I really have no idea how the passenger side tail light can be shoved into the backseat and the wheel comes out fine. Whatever, I think it was like 1k extra for the black 19's on the Eco Stang so if I get another it’s 1k I can save.
